St. Olaf defeats Minnesota Morris for fourth-straight win

AUBURNDALE, Fla. Jake Ossell homered in the sixth inning and had two hits, four RBI and two runs in the game as the St. Olaf College baseball team defeated the University of Minnesota Morris, 13-1, in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

St. Olaf (7-2) recorded 10 hits and held Minnesota Morris (2-5) to just four hits, along with five errors by the Cougars and an errorless game by the Oles in the victory.

Ossell led St. Olaf with two hits,including a home run, four RBI and two runs, while Tommy McDonald added two hits and two runs and Matthew Muller had two hits and an RBI. Sam Pressman collected two RBI off one hit and tallied two runs, along with two RBI and a hit from Dylan Blake.

Jesse Retzlaff pitched four scoreless innings and picked up his second victory of the season, while Luke Feigal finished out the final 2.1 innings of the game.

The Oles got on the board in the bottom of the first after a ground out from Blake that sent McDonald home to make the score 1-0.

St. Olaf extended its lead in the third inning as TJ Rogers and McDonald started the inning with back-to-back hits to get on base. A one-run single from Blake doubled the Oles lead and Pressman and McDonald scored on an error to make the score 4-0 .

In the top of the fifth, the Cougars had two hits and a run, but the Oles held three runners on base as the inning ended and answered with three hits and four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Stuckmayer started the bottom of the fifth with a triple to center field and Ossell RBI doubled to left field to put St. Olaf on top at 7-1. Pressman doubled to right field and sent Rogers and Ossell in to give the Oles an eight-run lead at the end of the inning.

The Oles extended the lead in the sixth inning after Stuckmayer scored on a Cougar error and Ossell three-run homered and made the score 13-1.

The Oles held the Cougars to no hits in the last two innings and eight Minnesota Morris runners were left on base in game.

St. Olaf returns to action on Monday, Mar. 25 in Auburndale, Fla. for a doubleheader against Union College with the first game beginning at 10 a.m. central time.
