Bison wrap spring break trip with pair of losses

The Nichols College baseball team dropped a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games against Endicott Saturday afternoon at Henley Field in Lakeland. Florida.

Game one – Nichols 8, Endicott 11
Nichols (8-6, 0-1 CCC) and Endicott (6-5, 1-0 CCC) combined for 26 hits with the top five in the order for Nichols combining for 11 hits, led by freshman David Caron who went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and graduate student Chris Anderson who drove in a season-high four runs on three hits, including a bases clearing double in the seventh inning to cut the Gulls lead to just one run. Sophomore Justin Hurley took the hill for Nichols going six innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on nine hits, while punching out four batters.

The Gulls were led offensively by senior Matt Bald, 3-for-5 with two RBI, and a run scored. They sent senior Kevin Gould to the mound, coming into the game he had given up no earned runs all season. He went 6.2 innings, giving up six runs (two earned), while punching out 11 batters.

Game two – Nichols 0, Endicott 8
The Bison (8-7, 0-2 CCC) were led by a two-hit effort from junior Kyle Bouchard (2-for-3), and hits from student-athletes Joe Assenza, Kyle Desjardins, Nathaniel Cormier, and Tyler Heenan. The Gulls (7-5, 2-0 CCC) received two more hits from Bald (2-for-3) with two runs scored as well as two hits from John Duffy (2-for-4).

Freshman Brendan Duffy came in and pitched 4.2 innings of relief for Nichols, giving up one run on three hits, and striking out two batters. Senior Zachary Sultar received the win for Endicott after going five innings and giving up no runs on four hits.
