Wolves Baseball Swept at SUNY Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team lost both ends of a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill.

Keuka College (4-11, 1-2 NEAC) dropped the opening game 2-1 in 10 innings to the Fighting Tigers. The Wolves were then shutout in the nightcap 1-0.

SUNY Cobleskill 2 vs. Keuka College 1 – Game One – 10 innings

Keuka College had a pair of hits in the top of the first, but were unable to push any runs across. The Green and Gold would not have another hit until a Nick Boyle (Chenango Forks, N.Y. / Chenango Forks) double in the fifth inning. The Wolves got one run across in the inning and led 1-0.

Defensively, Keuka College was held in the game by starting pitcher K.C. Howe (Mount Morris, N.Y. / Mount Morris). Howe allowed just one hit over the first four innings. The Fighting Tigers got to the Keuka starter in the fifth for three hits and one run as the game was tied 1-1 after five.

The game would go to extra innings. An eighth inning single by Tyler Freedman (Rochester, N.Y. / Aquinas Institute) was the lone hit by either team until the tenth inning. SUNY Cobleskill took advantage of a Keuka College error. The Fighting Tigers followed it with back-to-back singles to score the runner and win the game 2-1 in 10 innings.

Lead Wolves: K.C. Howe struck out six batters in his five innings of work. He was relieved by Joe DiBenedetto (Nanuet, N.Y. / East Carteret (N.C.)). DiBenedetto allowed just two hits and an unearned run in 4.1 innings of work with four strikeouts.

SUNY Cobleskill 1 vs. Keuka College 0 – Game Two

Game Two began with Anthony Brown (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schenectady) reaching on an error. He would be left on base as the next 10 batters for Keuka were retired in order.

Dan Bamann (Rochester, N.Y. / Irondequoit) ended the offensive slide in the fourth inning with a single, but he would be stranded at third.

The Fighting Tigers got an RBI single in the fifth and made the one run last as they defeated the Wolves 1-0 to sweep the doubleheader on Saturday.

Lead Wolf: Tyler Broderick (State College, Pa. / Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy) had one of Keuka's two hits in game two. The junior has recorded a hit in six of his eight games played this season.

  • The extra-inning loss in game one snapped Keuka's three-game winning streak in extra-inning games
  • Game two was the first time that the Wolves were shutout by the Fighting Tigers

  • Anthony Brown had his career-best eight-game hitting streak snapped in game one. Nick Boyle had his five-game streak ended in the second game
