READING, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Alvernia battled to an 8-8 tie after the game was called for darkness after the 11th inning on Wednesday.

Tommy Nardini and Nick Mulvey each had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Jason Mulvey doubled, tripled, and scored twice while brother Nick stole two bases. The team totaled 16 hits on the day.

The game had the markings of a slugfest as each team scored runs in their first three at-bats. Tied at 5-5 after the third, RBI singles from Dave Tatoian and Nardini gave Gwynedd a two-run lead. Ryan Keen made it 8-5 with his two-out RBI double in the sixth.

After the Golden Wolves answered with a run in the bottom half of the sixth, they took use of four Griffin errors in the seventh to tie things up. Starter R.J. Boyle was taken out in favor of Liam Sullivan who limited the damage, getting back-to-back strikeouts with runners on second and third.

The Griffins had runners on the corners in the ninth with one out, but a strikeout and pop up ended that threat. A leadoff walk in the bottom of the 11th was sacrificed to second, but Tatoian, who entered the inning on the mound got a big strikeout and line out to end the inning. From there, the game was called ending in the second tie between the two schools in their 55th all-time meeting.

The team will play at Wesley on Saturday in an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader.
