(TIFFIN, Ohio) – The Thomas More University baseball team tallied 12 hits today (Tuesday, April 2, 2019) as it defeated Heidelberg University, 7-3, at Peaceful Valley in Tiffin, Ohio.  The Saints improve to 8-10 and the Student Princes fall to 14-6.

HOW THEY SCORED:

  • Heidelberg took a 1-0 lead with a run in the fifth inning.
  • Thomas More tied the game in the sixth when senior catcher Sam Hauer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) scored on a Heidelberg dropped fly ball.
  • The Student Princes responded in the bottom of the inning with a run to retake the lead at 2-1.
  • Thomas More plated five runs in the eighth as sophomore left fielder Brady Reynolds (White Oak, Ohio/LaSalle) had a run batted-in single scoring senior right fielder Joshua Boeckmann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), first-year first baseman Brennan Baker (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) had a single scoring Reynolds and junior designated hitter Matt Wellbrock (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) and senior short stop Sean Lawrence (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) had a double scoring Baker and senior center fielder Blaise Ostertag (Burlington, Ky./Conner).
  • The Saints added another run in the ninth when Wellbrock scored on a Baker single to extend the lead to 7-2.
  • Heidelberg scored one run in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More posted the 7-3 road win.

  • Senior pitcher Jonathan Breeden (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) earned the win as he pitched two innings giving up one run on one hit, while striking out one.
  • Sophomore pitcher Andrew Schramm (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched one inning giving up one hit, while not allowing a hit and striking out one.
  • Junior pitcher Justin Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched one inning not allowing a run and holding Heidelberg to one hit, while striking out one.
