NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College baseball team swept Augsburg University, 9-8, and, 9-0, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader at Mark Almli Field and improved to 4-0 in league play.

After St. Olaf (13-4, 4-0 MIAC) trailed by two, junior Ryan Torbenson hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning and picked up three RBI to steal the victory over Augsburg (5-12, 1-3 MIAC). In the second game the Oles held the Auggies to one hit, while totaling 12 hits from St. Olaf.

This is the first time the Oles started 4-0 in MIAC play since 2011 when St. Olaf won the first five conference games, including sweeps over Saint Mary's and Gustavus Adolphus.

Despite St. Olaf trailing 8-6 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Torbenson hit a walk-off three-run homerun over the right field fence to put the Oles on top.

TJ Rogers led St. Olaf and was 3-of-4 at bat, along with two RBI and a run. Tommy McDonald, Torbenson and Jake Ossell each had two hits, along with three RBI from Torbenson and two runs from Ossell and McDonald.

Luke Feigal finished out the game at the mound and picked up the victory to even his season record at 1-1, while Hanson Devine tossed the first three innings and tallied five strikeouts.

St. Olaf took an early lead in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs as Dylan Blake doubled and Sam Stuckmayer had a sacrifice fly to right field. McDonald RBI singled in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 3-0.

Augsburg took the lead in the third inning, after a double resulted in two RBI, followed by a single to center field that picked up a pair of RBI to put the Auggies on top at 4-3 heading into the fourth.

An RBI double from Rogers in the fourth even the score at 4-4. The Oles regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Luke Dahl, followed by an RBI double from Rogers, giving St. Olaf a 6-4 lead.

The Auggies answered in the top of the seventh with four runs off three hits. Back-to-back singles put runners on base, and an error accounted for the first run of the inning. Augsburg evened the score at 6-6 after Dan Phyle was walked in, and a double from Clayton Bodine put the Auggies on top at 8-6.

After two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Stuckmayer singled to third and Matthew Muller was walked. With two Oles on base, Torbenson hit a homer past the right field fence and picked up the victory as he crossed home plate.

St. Olaf had 12 hits in the game, including multiple hits from four players.

St. Olaf held Augsburg to one hit in the game, while the Oles had 12 hits, including hits from seven St. Olaf players.

Rogers and Blake each had three hits, along with three runs for rogers and four RBI and a run for Blake. Muller added two hits and an RBI and McDonald totaled a hit, two runs and an RBI.

Jesse Retzlaff pitched the first seven innings, allowing just one hit, while tallying three strikeouts in the game as he improved his season record to 4-0 with the win.

After two scoreless innings by both teams, St. Olaf broke the deadlock in the bottom of the third as a double from Blake put two runs on the board. Sam Pressman had a sacrifice fly to left field as McDonald crossed home plate to make the score 3-0.

The Oles extended the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh as Rogers scored on an RBI single to third base by Blake, followed by an RBI single from Muller.

St. Olaf held the Auggies to no hits in the final two innings of the game, while adding three runs in the bottom of the eighth. After Dahl was walked and Rogers got on base with a single, McDonald RBI singled to center field to extend the lead to 7-0. Blake followed McDonald with another RBI single to right center and an RBI single from Stuckmayer through the left side accounted for the Oles final run of the game.

The Oles return to action on Saturday, Apr. 6 for a MIAC doubleheader against Saint Mary's in Winona with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
