Bison drop CCC matchup to Golden Bears

The Nichols College baseball team lost to Western New England 8-3 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game at Trelease Park in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Western New England (13-6, 5-0 CCC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first six innings before sophomore Nathaniel Cormier (2-for-3) drove in the Bison's first run with a single up the middle in the seventh inning. Freshman Tyler Heenan followed that up with a two RBI double down the third base line to cut the Golden Bears lead in half, 6-3.

Western New England junior Kevin Johnson knocked in two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend the Golden Bears lead to 8-3. Johnson finished the game with a team-high three RBI on two hits, all out of the nine hole. Nichols sophomore Justin Hurley was tabbed with the loss, his third of the season. WNE sophomore Kevin Hummer was credited with the win after pitching six scoreless innings of work, giving up three hits, while striking out nine batters.

-Nichols drew a game-high six walks.

-WNE pitching struck out 13 batters.

-Today's game marked the 46th all-time meeting between the two programs.
