WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson baseball team picked up its 12th and 13th consecutive wins this afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Westminster at Ross Memorial Park.

The pair of victories puts W&J at 16-7 overall this season and a perfect 11-0 in the PAC. Westminster, on the other hand, drops to 9-10 overall and 4-4 in conference.

Game One
W&J opened today's twin bill by taking the first game, 9-1, behind a 12-5 advantage in hits.

James Artale (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) plated the first score of the tilt in the bottom of the first with an RBI single up the middle. The speedy Spencer Howell(Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) scored on the play from second.

The contest opened up in the next frame, as W&J's lead grew to 6-0. Josh Crummer (Great Falls, Va./Flint Hill School) scored the first run of the inning, getting home on Adam Moore's (Olean, N.Y./Archbishop Walsh) single to deep right field.

The next two runs came off the bat of Dante Dalesandro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon), who recorded a bases-loaded single to plate two. RBI from Mullen Socha (Independence, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and Justin Griffin (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) out of the two and five spots in the batting order, respectively, gave the Red & Black a 6-0 lead.

W&J added one more run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth to come away with the convincing PAC win.

Dalesandro paced all players with three hits in the opener, to go along with three runs scored and two RBI. Howell and Moore rounded out the Presidents' players with two-plus hits.

Santino Platt (Pittsburgh, Pa./OLSH) started on the pitching mound for W&J and earned the win by going a season-best 6.0 innings with a season-low one run allowed. Platt's four strikeouts today are his second-highest mark this year.

Game Two
The Presidents took game two by a 12-8 final score, this time leading 12-1 after the first seven innings.

Just like game one, W&J stormed out to an early lead in the bout, taking a 7-0 advantage after two. The highlights of the surge were RBI doubles from Artale, Socha and Crummer. The trio of sluggers combined to plate five of the Presidents' first seven runs.

Following a Westminster run in the fourth, the Red & Black continued to build its advantage over the fourth and fifth frames. First, Adam Jaworski (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) drove home Howell for his second RBI of the game. In the fifth inning, Socha smacked his team-leading third home run to left field to give W&J a 10-1 lead.

With two more runs in the seventh, the Presidents took a 12-1 advantage into the eighth. It was in this inning that the game got interesting, as the Titans scored six runs with just one out and the bases loaded to cut their deficit to 12-7. At that point, senior Clay Martin (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was called in to close out the contest. Following an RBI ground out and a fielder's choice, the Presidents got out of the frame without any further damage.

Martin came back out in the top of the ninth, getting three quick outs to earn the save. For the game, Martin allowed no runs over 1.2 innings to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Fellow senior Garrett Harstine (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) got the start in game two, going 6.0 innings to pick up his team-best fourth victory. Harstine allowed just one run, while striking out two.

At the plate, Socha and Artale led all players with three hits each. Socha logged three RBI and three runs in the nightcap, while Artale posted two RBI and two runs.

Crummer and Jaworski also had solid days, ending the game tied with two RBI on two hits.

Dalesandro went 1-for-3 in the second bout of the day, extending his hit streak to 15 consecutive games. Dalesandro's hit streak is a career-best, although he did have a 26-game streak of reaching base safely last season.

The Presidents will conclude the regular-season series against Westminster tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a road contest in New Wilmington, Pa.
