The Oglethorpe baseball team fell 6-0 to the Birmingham-Southern Panthers Friday night in Alabama to start a three-game SAA set. With the loss, the Stormy Petrels dropped to 9-21 on the season overall and 5-8 in SAA play.

The Petrels had a chance to break through in the second inning. They loaded the bases with one out off singles from senior designated hitter Andrew Mink, sophomore catcher Alec Babb and senior third baseman Dylan Leonard. They couldn't scratch a run across off Birmingham-Southern pitcher Jake Cook, though.

Meanwhile, freshman right-hander Jonathan Haab held the Panthers hitless over the first three innings, but the home side broke through with two runs on three hits in the fourth. They added an additional run in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Oglethorpe put runners in scoring position in the fifth and seventh innings but were unable to dent the scoreboard either time.

Haab suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out five.

Leonard went 2-for-3 and was the only Petrel with multiple hits. Senior center fielder Jacob Gassert clocked the Petrels' only extra-base hit with a double in the seventh.

The Petrels return to Birmingham Saturday for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. EDT, with a nine-inning first game and a seven-inning second game.
