DOYLESTOWN, PA (April 7, 2019) – King's College senior Christian Pack had three hits and knocked in a career high five runs, but it wasn't enough as the Monarchs fell to host Delaware Valley 14-10 on Sunday afternoon from Frank Wolfgang Field on the campus of DVU.

Pack moved into fourth on the modern era career hit list with 172 hits. He is just three hits shy of 2018 graduate Kyle Lupas for third with 175. Two of his hits and all five of his runs batted in came in back-to-back innings with the bases loaded. Pack recorded his 170th career hit in the first inning when he beat out an infield single to short. Two batters later Matt Mellinger knocked him in for the first run of the game on a double to the gap in right center.

Delaware Valley (7-17, 3-9 MAC Freedom) took the lead in the bottom of the inning with a pair of two-out walks and a double to deep left center. The Monarchs (10-13, 7-5 MAC Freedom) came right back in the second inning with a leadoff single by Sean McKee. Tyler Reynolds gave KC the lead with his fourth home run of the year. Reynold's shot to center went over 400 feet. The Aggies came right back in the bottom of the inning with three walks to load the bases and a single through the right side to score two and retake the lead at 4-3. Dan Hartson and Kyle Friebolin hit singles to put two on with two out in the third. Reynolds tied the game up with an RBI single up the middle.

The Aggies took advantage on a Monarch error in the fourth to score five unearned runs on six hits in the inning. King's cut into the deficit in the sixth as Noah Adams, Mike Armstrong, and Matt Dobeck opened the inning with walks. Pack knocked in two runs with a single up the middle. Del Val got a ground out, a fielder's choice, and a pop up to short to get out of the inning with no more damage. DVU got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning on a two-out triple to left center and then a single to right.

In the seventh, McKee, Armstrong, and Dobeck were all hit by pitches to load the bases with two outs. Once again Pack came up big with a bases-clearing triple to right center making it a one-run game. However, the Aggies responded with a run in the bottom of the inning on a single and double with two outs to make it 11-9. DVU added three more runs in the eight to make it a five-run game.

Adams led off the ninth with a walk and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Armstrong singled to left to put runners on the corners before Dobeck knocked in a run with a grounder to third where he beat the relay throw to first from second. The Aggies ended the game with back-to-back fly balls to center.

The Monarchs scored 10 runs on 13 hits as eight of the nine starters recorded at least one. Pack led the team with three while Mellinger, McKee, and Reynolds had two each. Reynolds had three RBI and a run scored. Jacob Lupas got the loss on the mound despite not giving up an earned run. All five runs he allowed came in the fourth inning as the sophomore provided 2.2 innings of relief. Friebolin had another strong outing and the junior allowed three runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.

King's is still in control of their own destiny for a postseason bid with three weekends left in the regular season. The Monarchs are tied for third with DeSales and hold the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs. Wilkes is two games back at 5-7 with KC and the Colonels to play next weekend. Misericordia is atop the standings at 9-3 while Manhattanville is a half game back at 8-3.

Before the Monarchs square off with the Colonels next weekend, they will host Clarks Summit for a non-conference game at Lipo Field at 4 pm on Tuesday. Wednesday's game at Penn College has been postponed as the Wildcats need to makeup a conference game on that day.
