Hartford, Conn. – Senior SS Ben Reinisch (Troy, N.Y.) singled home junior OF Matt Koperniak (Adams, Mass.) for the game-winning run with none out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-2 win over the visiting Williams College Ephs in baseball action in a steady rain this afternoon at Murren Family Field in DiBenedetto Stadium.  Trinity improves to 16-4, its best start after 20 games since 2012 and will visit Nichols tomorrow at 4 p.m.  The Ephs fall to 13-4 entering a game at Vassar tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Koperniak blasted a solo homer to right-center to lead off the bottom of the first inning, and Trinity first-year RHP Jimmy Fahey (Danbury, Conn.) had a one-hit shutout through the first six frames.  Williams junior LHP Charlie Carpenter (Bedford, N.Y.) was nearly as good with shutout innings in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, but the Eph offense broke through with two runs in the seventh stanza on a pair of sacrifice flies. 

Trinity tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when senior F Geoff Stillman (Scituate, Mass.) led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a Williams throwing error while taking third on a fly ball.  Relievers for both teams pitched out of trouble in the eighth inning, and Trinity senior tri-captain lefty Erik Mohl (Milton, Mass.) escaped despite a leadoff double by Eph junior Mike Stamas (Northboro, Mass.) in the top of the ninth.  Koperniak started the bottom of the ninth frame with a single up the middle, stole second, and scored on Reinisch's hit over the second baseman to end the game.

Mohl improved to 3-0 with seven outs of scoreless relief, allowing three hits and walking none with two strikeouts.  Fahey yielded just three hits and two runs with two walks and four K's over 6.2 innings, while Carpenter finished with four hits and one run allowed, two walks and six strikeouts in five innings for Williams.  Eph junior Kyle Dean (Fremont, Calif.) faced just the two batters in the ninth and fell to 0-5.  Koperniak paced Trinity offensively with three hits, two runs, an RBI, a walk, and a homer.  Senior 1B Doug Schaffer (New Haven, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double and sophomore Erik Pappas (Providence, R.I.) also had two hits for Williams.  Trinity did not commit an error and stole six bases, including two apiece by Koperniak and first-year 3B Mike Guanci (Wakefield, Mass.), and Williams made three errors and did not steal a base.
