DECATUR, Ill. (Apr. 10, 2019) – Scoring in seven of the nine innings, the North Central College baseball team cruised to a 12-6 win over Millikin University on Wednesday night, as senior outfielder Jeremy Quade is quietly cementing himself into the program's all-time record book.
 
The scoring started early for North Central (15-7, 5-3 CCIW) as Quade drew a one-out walk in the top of the first, stole second and advanced to third two batters later as Rob Marinec and John Carmody each walked to load the bases.  Colin Weilbacher delivered a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Quade, to open the scoring.
 
North Central added another run in the top of the second on a RBI-single off the bat of Quade, before Millikin (10-12, 5-5 CCIW) got on the board with a run of their own in the bottom half.
 
In the top of the third the Cardinals took advantage of a pair of Big Blue errors to plate four runs, as Ryan Scott drove home a run with a RBI-base hit to right center before scoring on a wild pitch later in the inning and Quade drove in two more with a base hit to right to extend the lead 6-1.
 
Millikin responded right back however with an identical four-run bottom half of the third, including a three-run homerun off the bat of Mason Bruce.
 
Following a scoreless fourth, Carmody cranked his second homerun in as many games and his CCIW-leading sixth of the season, pulling a two-run shot to right field, while Marinec drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the sixth to give North Central a 9-5 advantage.
 
Marinec got in on the homerun action in the top of the eighth with a two-run bomb of his own, as the sophomore catcher has now homered in an incredible four-straight games.
 
Quade finished 2-for-4 to move into sole place of third on the program's career hit list, moving past former teammate Michael Mateja as his 210 career base knocks are now four shy of second.  Quade's three stolen bases on the evening broke a record that has stood since 2004, as his 59 career steals move him past Brant Roth '04 to stand atop the all-time list.  With his one run scored, Quade also moves into a tie for second, as his 167 career runs are 12 shy of tying Ken Ritter's record set in 1988.
 
Marinec was walked four times on the evening while finishing 1-for-1 with his fifth homerun of the season while driving in three and scoring twice.  Michael Stoltz reached base four times, drawing a pair of walks while finishing 2-for-4 from the plate with three runs scored, while Ryan Scott added a 3-for-5 performance with two RBI.
 
Luke Lamm improves to 3-0 after receiving the victory on the mound, allowing five runs, all earned over five innings but was provided with plenty of run support from the offense.  Patrick Schaefer pitched the final four innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out four and walking none to earn his second save of the season.
 
North Central now begins a three-game weekend series with Elmhurst College on Saturday, Apr. 13 traveling to Butterfield Park for a doubleheader at 12 p.m., with the series finale at Zimmerman Stadium on Sunday.
