The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay today at MCU Park in Brooklyn. The game was called after the 6th inning due to rain, with the Bearcats ahead 2-0.
With runners on second and third and no outs, the Bloodhounds were poised to take the lead in the top of the first. However, Paul Sirakowski got back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to get the Bearcats out of the inning unscathed.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first. Nicholas Valeriano led the inning off with a single, and Conor McCabe eventually drove him home with a single of his own.
Sirakowski would go on to pitch six innings of shutout baseball, striking out seven Bloodhounds along the way.
The Bearcats tacked on an insurance run in fourth. Angelo Alessandro drew a walk with the bases load to drive in Gerardo Roque.
Head Coach Jose Torres earned his 200th career win tonight in the victory.
The CUNYAC-leading Bearcats will face John Jay again in a road doubleheader tomorrow at Fordham University. The first game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
