GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy picked up two big Atlantic East Conference wins, sweeping visiting Marymount in a doubleheader on Monday. The Griffins scored three times in the fifth to rally for a 3-2 win in game one while game two saw Gwynedd ride the arm of Nick DeRitis as the senior tossed a three-hit shutout in a 12-0 victory.

The wins move the Griffins into second place past the Saints in the Atlantic East standings. The team will close out conference play on Saturday at Neumann with a chance to lock up the #2 playoff seed.

Game one
Starter Brian Wildrick rebounded from two early runs and got key defensive plays while Liam Sullivan threw two scoreless innings for the save in the 3-2 win.

Wildrick threw five innings, scattering two runs on seven hits with one strikeout and two walks. After a run in the top of the first and the second, the Saints had a runner on first with two outs in the fourth. Baker hit a double to center but the relay of Sachael Sciarretta to Dave Tatoian to Josh Lopez at the plate kept Marymount from adding any more runs.

In the very next inning, Wildrick worked out of a big spot as the Saints put runners on second and third with no outs. After a liner to short, the next batter sent a ball to third where Nick Mulvey and Lopez got the runner in a run-down for the second out. Wildrick then induced a grounder to end the threat.

The Griffins used that momentum in the bottom half scoring all three of their runs. After a leadoff walk to Lopez and a single from T.J. Brasier, the two were pinch ran for and sacrificed up a base. Now with one out, Justin Curtin got GMercyU on the board with a sac fly to right. Sciarretta drove in a run as he would beat a slow roller to short to tie the game at 2-2. Gwynedd took the lead as Sciarretta raced all the way home from first on a double down the line in left from Jason Mulvey.

Sullian entered in the sixth and worked the final two innings, getting three K's in the process to nail down the first game.

Game two
Sciarretta stayed hot, as the senior went 3-for-3 with a career high six RBI's including his first career grand slam to help pace the offense. Nick Mulvey also went deep as he was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Brandon Gray scored three times. The team scored runs in all but the third and eighth innings to help lock up the conference sweep.

It was more than enough for DeRitis who fanned five and walked just two as he tossed his first career shutout.

The team will host Penn State-Abington on Wednesday at home with a 3:30 start.
