WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Eight pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Washington & Jefferson College baseball team earned a 6-0 victory over Frostburg State in a non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.

Nick Drake (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) got the start and picked up the win on the mound. The sophomore tossed two scoreless innings before giving way to a slew of relief pitchers as part of a pre-determined plan in the non-conference game. Tanner Gaerke (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) pitched a scoreless third inning, allowing just one hit during the frame.

The final six W&J pitchers combined to toss six hitless innings. Robby Heberle (Georgetown, Pa./South Side) worked the fourth before giving way to Michael Zito (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg) in the fifth inning. After Zito recorded three strikeouts in that frame to retire the side, Jansen Eichenlaub (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) struck out a pair in the sixth inning.

Henry Litman (Marietta, Ga./Walton), Mitchell Taufer (Washington, Pa./Bishop Canevin) and Clay Martin(Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) combined to work the final three innings out of the bullpen. The shutout was the second straight for the W&J pitching staff, who recorded an 8-0 shutout win over Geneva in game two of a doubleheader Saturday.

Offensively, W&J scored one run in each of the first three innings before tacking on two more in the fourth inning and another single run in the eighth inning to conclude the scoring. Highlighting the offensive performances was Mullen Socha (Independence, Ohio/St. Ignatius), who hit his team-leading sixth home run of the season in the win.

Josh Crummer (Great Falls, Va./Flint Hill School), Shayne Erny (North Ridgeville, Ohio/St. Edward), Nick Guercio(Cabot, Pa./Knoch) and Socha recorded two hits each for the Presidents.

The win improves W&J to 23-9 overall, which includes a 15-2 mark at home. Frostburg State drops to 11-16-1 in 2019.

W&J hosts Grove City College for a single nine-inning game on Friday, April 26. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
