LOS ANGELES — The Occidental baseball team is headed to the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Nolan McCarthy was back to his dominant self, Oxy had great timely hitting with two outs and the Tigers beat Redlands 5-1 on Senior Day in their last regular-season home game of the year.

Oxy currently sits in third with a one-game lead and the head-to-head tiebreaker over No. 4 Cal Lutheran, and trails La Verne for the No. 2 spot by a game with two games to play. The Tigers can clinch the No. 3 seed with any win tomorrow or Cal Lutheran loss. Oxy would lose out on the tiebreaker with La Verne so the only way the Tigers get the No. 2 and a home game next Friday is if Oxy wins out and La Verne loses out.

McCarthy, who suffered a rare defeat last Friday against Cal Lutheran, went the distance, giving up just one earned run, in his sixth complete game. He had 12 strikeouts and gave up just five hits and three walks.

McCarthy continues to make his case for SCIAC Pitcher of the Year honors, leading the league with an 1.80 ERA, 6-2 record, 58 strikeouts and just 14 walks in SCIAC play. He's 9-2 overall this year, with a 1.70 and 92 strikeouts.

Eamon McNeil had a big game for the Tigers, going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Michael Ingram also went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run, Jared Baur continued to hit well, going 2 for 3 with an RBI, Angelo Zorn was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run, and Jack Brancheau went 1 for 4 with an RBI.

Oxy scored one run in the first, sixth and seventh, and added two more in the eighth.

The lone Redlands run came in the third.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 26-12 overall and 14-8 in SCIAC. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division III West Region.

Redlands falls to 14-23-1 and 8-14.

Next Game: Oxy finishes the regular season with a doubleheader at Redlands on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
