Berry Baseball Earns Doubleheader Sweep Over Emory & Henry

ROME, Ga. — The Berry College baseball team improved to 3-0 on the year with back-to-back 7-4 victories over Emory & Henry this afternoon.

Garrett West earned his first win of the year in the opening game, tossing 4.0 innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits and fanning four. Ben Coker collected his second win of the season in game two, tossing 3.0 innings allowing just one run. Milan Sutaria earned the save, retiring the side in the seventh inning.

Weston Bray opened scoring in game one, driving in Tyler Calvert on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Spence Johns then hit a bases-clearing double to left field to put the Vikings up 4-0 heading into the fifth. Bray added another sacrifice fly before SPence Johns hit another RBI double to put the Vikings up 6-0. Jon Hemings tacked on another in the frame, giving Berry a 7-0 lead. The Wasps threatened in the seventh inning, plating four but Mason Carnes limited the damage to give Berry the win.

Johns drove in the first run in game two on a single to left before E&H tied the game in the second on a Dan Roy Boggs RBI ground out. Berry then scored four in the home half of the inning thanks to a wild pitch and singles from Dalton Smith, Zack Walch and Tyler Calvert. E&H got one back in the fourth, but a Tyler Calvert double and a throwing error put Berry up 7-2 after four. The Wasps tacked on a pair in the fifth, but the Vikings pitching shut the team down the rest of the way.

Berry welcomes Piedmont College on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. start.
