McAdams Walk-Off Propels Sewanee Baseball to Doubleheader Sweep of Stars

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee baseball team remained unbeaten on the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Dominican (Ill.), winning 3-2 and 6-3 on Saturday from Montgomery Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The contest started off with a bang, as the second batter of the game in Johnny Condron sent a fly ball over the right field fence to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

-The contest hung a lot of zeros on the line score, but the Tigers finally evened the score in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a wild pitch that brought home William McAdams.

-However, the Stars would reclaim the lead in the next half inning on a wild pitch.

-In the seventh, with a runner on first, the Tigers got out the inning thanks to a double play. After a flyout to Jared Demkowicz, he threw the ball to Wesley House to get Tyler Trojan out at first base.

-In the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers evened the score at two runs apiece. After a Ben Harper free pass that saw the ball get away from the catcher, he took off for second and was tagged out on the play. Sully McCreery, who was at third base was able to score on the play.

-The Tigers defense was able to strand two runners on base in the top of the ninth, but in the bottom half, with two runners on base, Jake Woolard forced extra innings by recording the third out.

-After a three-up, three-down top half of the 10th, the Tigers started the bottom half with a leadoff walk by Ben Harper.

-Following a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, McAdams launched a single into the left center field gap to send the Sewanee fans happy.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In the second game of the twinbill, the Stars laced three runs across in the top half of the first inning.

-Sewanee began to chip away at the deficit with an RBI single in the bottom of the first by Sully McCreery.

-The Tigers evened the score with back-to-back RBI plays by Chris McNulty and McCreery. McNulty brought William McAdams home on a base hit to left field. Later, McCreery posted an RBI groundout, scoring Jake Woolard on the play to make it a 3-3 game after three innings.

-In the fourth, a sacrifice fly by Wade Sansone gave the Tigers the lead for good.

-Sewanee tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth to secure the 6-3 win.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-In game one, Dalton Buckingham allowed two earned runs in seven innings, walking one and punching out nine batters.

-William McAdams earned the walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th to finish with two hits and a run scored.

-In game two, Chris McNulty, Jake Woolard and McAdams each recorded two hits each in the victory. McNulty and McCreery each drove in two RBI.

-Shane Smith (2-0) earned the win in game one, posting three shutout innings. Cy Spencer (2-0) pitched 2.2 innings in relief with three strikeouts to secure the victory in the afternoon cap.

DOMINICAN KEY STATISTICS
-Jonny Condron recorded an RBI and a run scored in game one, while Frankie Sessa posted a hit and a run scored in game two.

-Tyler Cara (0-1) suffered the loss in the opener, while Hayden Young (0-1) started game two for the Stars, pitching four innings.
