Conway, Ark., Feb. 23, 2020 – Junior Tim Tague tossed four innings of relief to pick up the win as the No. 8-ranked Washington University in St. Louis baseball team completed a three-game sweep at Hendrix College with a 9-5 victory Sunday in Conway, Ark.
WashU improved to 3-0 with the win, while Hendrix dropped to 3-7.
Tague did not allow a hit with three strikeouts and two walks as he picked up the 10th win of his career. Junior Ryan Loutos made the start for WashU and lasted three innings allowing two hits with three strikeouts before giving way to Tague.
WashU had nine hits for the second-consecutive game, and did not commit an error for the second time this season. Sophomore infielder Tim Van Kirk came off the bench for the Bears and went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.
WashU broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fifth off two hits and took advantage of one Hendrix error. Senior John Brinkman had a two-out, two RBI single up the middle for the Bears.
The Bears put the game out of reach with five runs on four hits in the seventh, thanks to some key two-out hits. Senior John Ostrander drove in a run with a single to left, and then Van Kirk and junior Ty Dalinghaus added two-RBI singles with two outs.
Senior Brian Schutter (six pitches, six strikes) allowed one hit in the ninth to shut the door on Hendrix after they scored a run in the eighth and four in the ninth.
