Berry's Coker Claims Career Wins Record in 13-3 Rout at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA — Ben Coker picked up his 21st career win at Oglethorpe on Friday afternoon, setting Berry's NCAA Division III era record in a 13-3 rout of the Stormy Petrels.

With the win, Berry improved to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. Oglethorpe fell to 3-7 and 0-1 in conference.

Coker tossed 7.0 innings, allowing just one earned run and fanning a career-high 10 hitters. He is now an SAA-leading 4-0 on the year. Zack Walch also inked his name in the Berry record books, setting a Division III era record with four walks in a single game.

The Vikings wasted no time heating up the bats on a chilly day in Atlanta. Berry plated five in the opening frame beginning with a bases-clearing double from Quinn Smith. Oglethorpe plated three runs of their own in the home half of the inning, but Coker was able to keep the plate clean the rest of the way.

Tyler Calvert hit the team's first home run of the year to lead off the second inning before Derrick Newman and Evan Romeo drove home two more to put Berry up 8-3. Berry scored again in the third, and an RBI single from Romeo and a bases loaded walk from Quinn Smith in the fourth inning effectively put the game out of reach. For good measure, Trevor Proctor and Walch added a pair of RBIs in the eighth inning to secure the run-rule victory.

Berry closes the series with Oglethorpe tomorrow in Atlanta with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
