Kean Breezes by Arcadia, 9-2

Union, N.J. (2/28/20)Josh Jackson and Zachary Marzano combined for five RBI as the Kean University baseball team breezed past Arcadia University by the final of 9-2 on Friday afternoon.

Jackson was 2-for-4 with a two run blast to left center as he collected Kean's (5-2) first homer of the season.

Sophomore Bruce Weyand (1-0) picked up the win as he allowed just one run and three singles in five innings of work.  Senior Tyler Hopman collected a save after tossing four innings allowing just two singles and one run late.

Arcadia (4-3) struck first as Dylan Towey lined a two out single up the middle in the top of the second for a quick 1-0 lead.

The #5/13 Cougars took the lead for good in the bottom of the same frame as Mike Lapczynski singled to get things going.  Mike Perone Jr. lined a double down the line, putting runners on second and third with no outs.  The Knights' Nick Fossile (1-1) registered a comebacker groundout and a strikeout to almost work out of the threat, but Conner DeForge worked a full count walk to load the bases.  Philip Mahlik took advantage and singled deep in the hole at shortstop to knot the game at one-all.  Cristian Corcione followed with a single to right to give Kean the lead for good, 2-1.

In the bottom of the third Marzano led off the inning with a walk.  After swiping second, he moved to third on a groundout.  Two batters later, Zach Joe lofted an RBI single to left for a 3-1 advantage.  Jackson made it 5-2 with a homerun to left center one batter later.

It was Marzano's turn in the bottom of the fourth as he recorded a one out, two RBI single in the gap as Kean extended the lead to 7-1.  The Cougars rounded out their scoring for the day in the fifth as Chris Ciaccio worked a bases loaded walk and Marzano singled in the hole.

Every starter reached base for the Cougars who collected 12 hits on the cold afternoon.

Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Haverford College at 11:30 a.m.
