West Tosses No-Hitter, Leads Berry Baseball to Series Sweep at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA — Sophomore Garrett West tossed a complete game no-hitter, leading the Berry College baseball team to a series sweep of the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels on Saturday. Berry is now 8-3 overall and 3-0 in league play.

West's no-hitter was the first for a single Berry pitcher since his uncle Shelby West threw a no-hitter against Shorter University in 1999. Shelby West was also a sophomore at the time of his no-hitter.

West earned the win in game one, allowing no earned runs and fanning four. Milan Sutaria pitched 2.0 innings of no-hit ball late in game two, claiming the win in a 5-4 final.

Berry dominated in the opening contest, leading 2-1 before a 10-run sixth inning blew the game open. Tyler Calvert and Weston Bray had multi-hit games, as Bray led with three RBIs.

The Vikings trailed 1-0 heading into the fourth inning of game two before a sacrifice fly from Derrick Newman and an RBI single from Zach Huie put Berry ahead. Tyler Calvert added an RBI double in the fifth inning before the home team went up 4-3 after the sixth. Dalton Smith tied the game in the seventh with a sacrifice fly and Tyler Calvert drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning off an infield single.

Berry travels to Emory on Tuesday afternoon before returning home on Thursday to host the Berry Invitational.
