WESTFIELD, Ind. – Behind a dominant performance on the mound from senior right-hand pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina), the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team took a 6-0 victory over Wabash (Ind.) College, at the Grand Park Sport Campus.
BW (2-2), who received three votes in the latest D3basbeall Top-25 Poll, scored six runs off seven hits.
The bats were led by senior ABCA/Rawlings All-American selection and All-Ohio Athletic Conference center fielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside), as he went 3-for-4 at the plate with a three-run triple in the fourth, scored one run and stole one base. Senior left fielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) went 2-for-3 at the dish with a two-run homerun in the third, and also crossed home twice. Senior two-time Academic All-OAC outfielder Brandon Dim (Solon) opened the games scoring with an RBI single in the second and stole a base. Sophomore catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills)tallied one hit while junior All-OAC shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan), and sophomore designated hitter Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) each scored a run. Wilson also stole one base.
Aukerman received the nod and dealt a career-best 8 innings of no-run baseball, only allowing two hits and striking out a career-high 12 batters. Freshman right-handed pitcher Dawson Gabe (Lawrence, Ind.) made his first collegiate appearance by striking out the side in the ninth.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 4 when they host a non-conference game against Oberlin College on Fisher Field at 4 p.m.
