No. 1 WashU Tosses One-Hitter in Win Over MacMurray

St. Louis, Mo., March 4, 2020 – The No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis baseball team tossed a one-hit shutout in a 10-0 win over MacMurray College Wednesday at Kelly Field in St. Louis.

WashU improved to 7-0 with the win, while MacMurray dropped to 2-6.

Sophomore Matt Lopes (1-0) picked up the win allowing one hit with five strikeouts in five innings. Four relief pitchers combined to toss a perfect four innings with four strikeouts.

Senior John Brinkman went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while sophomore Zac Styka was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The Bears had 12 hits in the win.

WashU scored six unearned runs to jump out to a 6-0 lead after four innings. Styka and sophomore Bo Anderson each had RBI singles in the fourth.

The Bears put the game out of reach with four runs on four hits in the fifth. Junior Ty Dalinghaus had an RBI triple to left and sophomore Caleb Durbin added an RBI double to left in the inning.
