Husson Baseball Swept by Anchormen on Day One of 2020 Spring Trip, 2-3, 1-11

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Husson baseball team (1-3) opened up their participation in the RussMatt Invitational on Saturday evening as they dropped a doubleheader to Rhode Island College (3-0) at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. Husson fell in the first game, 3-2, and dropped the nightcap, 11-1. 

GAME ONE - RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 3, HUSSON 2

The Anchormen opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning off a John Willette solo shot to left field. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles scored their only runs of the contest as Nolan Brown hit a single that drove home Chris Ewanik to tie the game and advanced Ethan Stoddard to third, who later scored on a balk to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Rhode Island College (RIC) responded in the bottom half of the third inning as Rommy Morel scored on a passed ball to level the game at two. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Anchormen drove home the winning run on a Nate Vigeant double to left field. Shaun Gamelin came in to pitch for the Anchormen in the top of the seventh inning as he struck out the side to preserve the 3-2 victory for RIC. 

ON THE MOUND - HUSSON

  • Jesse Colford got the start and went 3.2 innings. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking three batters, striking out two, and hitting two batters.
  • Jake Gauvin pitched 1.1 innings and hit a batter. 
  • Nolan Dousa (L, 0-1) pitched an inning as he allowed a run on two hits and walked a batter. 

ON THE MOUND - RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE

  • Dominic Cunha got the start and went 3.1 innings. He allowed two runs on a hit. He walked five batters as well as hit a batter but struck out four. 
  • Matthew Loffredo went 0.2 innings and struck out both batters faced. 
  • Jake Rockefeller (W, 1-0) pitched two innings and allowed two hits and struck out three.
  • Shaun Gamelin (Sv, 1) pitched an inning and struck out the side.

OFF THE BAT - HUSSON 

  • Brown went 2-for-3 and drove home a run. 
  • Ewanik and Stoddard both scored a run.
  • Ethan Daigneault recorded a hit.

OFF THE BAT - RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 

  • Willette hit a homer and walked. 
  • Morel went 2-for-2 and scored two runs. 

GAME TWO - RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 11, HUSSON 1

The Anchormen scored in every inning except the sixth inning as they scored 11 runs but the Eagles prevented the shutout in their final at-bats, thanks to a Nick Guerrette sacrifice fly to left field as the Little East Conference school won the second game, 11-1. 

ON THE MOUND - HUSSON

  • Stoddard (L, 0-1) got the start and pitched an inning. He allowed a run on two hits as he struck out a batter and walked a batter. 
  • Cam Graham pitched an inning as he allowed six runs on six hits and walked four batters while striking out two. 
  • Alex Brooks pitched two innings as he allowed a run on two hits including a home run as he walked a batter and struck out a batter.
  • Austin Tomalonis pitched an inning and allowed a hit and a walk.
  • Brandon Brunell pitched an inning as he allowed a run on three hits. 
  • Jack Corey pitched the final inning and he allowed two runs on two hits as he walked two batters and struck out a batter. 

ON THE MOUND - RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 

  • Connor Davey (W, 1-0) went 6.1 innings and allowed a run on five innings as he struck out four and walked four.
  • Carlos Pena finished the game for the Anchormen by pitching 0.2 innings. He walked two batters but struck out a batter. 

OFF THE BAT - HUSSON 

OFF THE BAT - RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 

  • Joseph Coro went 5-for-5 and scored four runs while driving in two more including a solo home run. 
  • Nick D'Ambra had two hits and drove in three runs. 
  • Vigeant and Ryan Rotondo each had two hits, drove in two runs, and scored a run.

The Husson Eagles return to Lake Myrtle Sports Complex tomorrow, Sunday, March 8th, versus Wheaton (Mass.) for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
