Cougars Comeback To Stun Wheaton For Conner's First Win

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Looking to start the Florida swing strong, the Concordia University Chicago Baseball team took to the field today against The Wheaton College Lyons. The Cougars lived up to their long earned nickname of the "Cardiac Cougars", by erasing a three run deficit and eventually walking off the Lyons on a throwing error by the pitcher the first win of the season 5-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Wheaton answered with a run on three hits in the top of the third.
  • CUC threatened in the bottom of the third, but stranded the bases loaded.
  • The Lyons took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth with two runs on five hits. Carman got a big double play ball to end the inning and escape further damage.
  • Wheaton made it 4-1 with a run in the sixth.
  • With Mateo Calle on first a Wheaton error put two on with no out. Garry Maynard made the Lyons pay with a double off of the wall in left center that made it 4-3.
  • With one out Garcia continued his big day with a single over the third basemen's head to tie it at 4-4.
  • Calle led off the ninth with a bunt single. Hatton followed with a single to center to put Calle in scoring position. Calle then tried to take third as the pitcher tried an inside move. The Wheaton pitcher then threw the ball wide at third and allowed Calle to come home to score the winning run.
