Baruch Sweeps Finlandia, Bearcats off to Best Start Since 2000

The Baruch College Bearcats posted a pair of shutouts and totaled 29 hits to take a doubleheader from Finlandia University on Saturday in Fort Myers, Florida.

In the morning contest, Robert Raman went the distance on the mound for the 14-0 shutout with seven innings pitched, four hits allowed, nine strikeouts and no walks in a solid start.

The Bearcats blew open the contest in the fifth inning with 10-runs on seven-hits and two errors. McCabe got the inning started with a two-run double to plate Kemal Deljanin and Christian Gonzalez.

Deljanin (four RBI), Gonzalez (two runs), McCabe (two runs), and Robert Schmuck (two runs) finished with two hits each.

In the second game, Benjamin Akerman earned his second win of the season by pitching six scoreless innings with six hits allowed, eight strikeouts and only one walk. Nicholas Rowe pitched a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout for the 15-0 win.

The Bearcats scored in every inning except the third. They plated four runs in the third inning and six in the sixth inning to complete the sweep of the former two-year associate member of CUNYAC baseball.

Deljanin (three runs, two doubles) and Schmuck (double, four runs, two RBI) starred again with three hits each. Nicholas Umile batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.

The Bearcats will next take on Plymouth State of New Hampshire on Sunday.
