Oglethorpe falls 10-0, dropping rubber game to Centre

The Oglethorpe baseball team suffered a tough finish to their 3-game SAA series against the Centre Colonels Sunday afternoon, falling 10-0 in eight innings at Gary Wright Field in Danville, Kentucky. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 4-11 overall and 1-5 in SAA play.

The Petrels were unable to dent the scoreboard against Centre pitching, as the visitors managed just two hits over the course of the game, one each by freshman center fielder Carter Guarino and junior right fielder Shota Barbeau.

The Colonels scored a pair of runs in the first and another in the second, taking a 3-0 lead on Oglethorpe freshman right-hander William Marconi. The Petrel hurler suffered his first loss of the season, allowing those 3 runs on two hits and five walks over an inning-and-two-thirds.

Centre expanded the lead with 4 runs in the fourth and 2 runs in the fifth, pushing their advantage to 9-0. A single tally in the bottom of the eighth clinched the game for the home side due to the 10-run rule.

The Petrels get back to action Friday and Saturday, when they host Sewanee in a three-game set at Anderson Field. They'll take on the Tigers at 6 p.m. Friday night and in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.
