No. 1 WashU Has Win Streak Snapped

St. Louis, Mo., March 7, 2020 – The No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis baseball team had its season-opening seven-game win streak snapped with a 14-5 loss to Coe College Saturday at Kelly Field in St. Louis.

Coe, who was receiving votes in the D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll, evened its record at 2-2 with the win, while WashU dropped to 7-1.

The Kohawks scored seven runs on four hits and took advantage of an error in the sixth to break open the game.

Sophomore Caleb Durbin went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch as WashU was limited to five hits. The Bears tied a season-high with three errors.

The Bears trailed 2-0 early in the contest, but Durbin drove in a pair of runs with a single up to the middle to give the Bears a 3-2 advantage.

Sophomore Collin Kahal drove in a run with a sac fly in the fifth to make it 4-3.

Senior Matt Ashbaugh made the start allowing seven hits and a pair of earned runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched, while junior Jared Fong allowed thre earned runs in 2/3 innings pitched.
