JACKSON, Miss. — The Berry College baseball team improved to 12-5 on the year on Friday, earning a doubleheader sweep of Millsaps College.
Ben Coker earned his sixth win in game one, tossing 7.0 innings allowing two runs and fanning eight hitters. Mason Carnes picked up his first win in the second game, tossing 2.0 shutout innings in relief.
Berry struck first in game one, plating a run in the opening frame en route to a 13-2 run-rule victory. Zack Walch led the way, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot. Dalton Smith, Spence Johns, Weston Bray and Evan Romeo also recorded multi-hit games.
Millsaps took the lead in game two, scoring three in the second inning. Berry then plated five in the third to take the lead, led by a two-run homer from Zach Huie. The Vikings went ahead 6-3 before Millsaps tied the game in the seventh. Dalton Smith gave the Vikings the lead in the eighth before Tyler Calvert blew the game open with a three-run homer to left field. Walch, Smith, Calvert and Johns recorded multi-hit games with Johns finishing 4-for-5.
