Baseball Falls to Anderson (Ind.) on Opening Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team opened the 2020 season with an 8-1 non-conference defeat to Anderson (Ind.) University, on Fishers Field.

BW's (0-1 overall) offense was led by senior American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Mideast Region and All-Ohio Athletic Conference centerfielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside), as he notched two doubles and a run scored. Junior All-OAC shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) drove in Taw with a double down the left field line in the bottom of the third. Junior infielder Tony LoParo (Avon/Elyria Catholic) and sophomore leftfielder Bijan Kamalipour (Frisco, Texas/Jesuit College Preparatory School) each tallied a hit.

Senior right-hand pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina) made the opening day start and pitched four innings of no-run baseball with seven strikeouts and only allowing two hits. Senior two-time Academic All-OAC left-hand pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) received the loss after four innings of work where he allowed four earned runs off eight hits, and struck out two. Sophomore right-hand pitcher Clay Anderson (Garfield Heights/Trinity) dealt two thirds of an inning and let up four earned runs off four hits. Senior right-hand pitcher Scott Kirchhoff (Toledo/Sylvania Northview) pitched one third of an inning and struck out one.

The Yellow Jackets hit the field tomorrow for a non-conference double-header, starting with Oswego St. (N.Y) University at 9 a.m and La Roche (Pa.) University at 3 p.m.
