Senior right hander Andrew Tri had a career-high 15 strikeouts to lead St. Thomas Baseball's 3-0 road one-hit shutout of Northwestern-St. Paul in Thursday's opener on a non-conference doubleheader in Roseville.

These were the first games of the season for the Tommies (1-1), who had seven hits on the day.

The host Eagles (3-4) won the nine-inning second game, 3-0, on Bryce Crabb's complete-game two-hit shutout.

Tri allowed a two-out double in the first inning but retired 18 of the last 20 batters and walked only one. In three starts so far in the last two seasons, Tri is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 21 innings.

Kyle Chirboga and Andrew Enck had run-scoring singles and Bryan Pierson drove in a run with a fielder's choice.

Tommie freshman Max Morris had two hits on the day and caught both games in his collegiate debut.

The Toms are scheduled to play St. Scholastica on Thursday March 18 in a noon doubleheader at U.S. Bank Stadium.
