SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team used a barrage of offense, including three home runs, to sweep a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader over the Mary Washington Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium. The Sea Gulls rolled to a 13-3 victory in Game 1 and eclipsed double digit runs again in Game 2 with a 10-5 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1

• Mary Washington got on the board in the top of the second inning as Ty Lowe doubled home a run to put the Eagles up 1-0.
• Salisbury responded in kind in the bottom of the third. Jacob Ference drew a leadoff walk and Sky Rahill was hit by a pitch. After Justin Meekins bunted his way on to load the bases, Kavi Caster grounded out to first to plate Ference and even the game. Two batters later, Matt Padeway poked a single through the right side, scoring Rahill and Meekins to put the Sea Gulls up 3-1.
• The Sea Gulls really came alive in the fifth. Ference worked another leadoff walk, then Rahill laid down a sac bunt but reached on an error at third. Meekins sacrificed the runners over, then Caster bashed a towering three-run home run to right field to make it 6-1.
• Jimmy Adkins kept the fifth inning going with a walk, then stole second and took third on a groundout. Stephen Rice then singled Adkins home, stole second, stole third and came home on an airmailed throw from the catcher, giving Salisbury a five-run inning and 8-1 edge.
• Salisbury put up more crooked numbers in the sixth and seventh. With a man on third and one out in the sixth, Meekins beat out an infield hit at short to plate a run. Caster followed by banging a double off the right center wall, scoring Meekins to make it 10-1.
• In the seventh, Cullen McAuliffe smashed a pinch-hit three-run homer to left, giving Salisbury a 13-1 lead.
• UMW picked up a couple runs in the ninth, with Xavier Herring driving in one on a sac fly and Bobby Ayscue scoring on an error.

SALISBURY GAME 1 NOTES

• Kavi Caster, the reigning C2C Player of the Week, was locked in at the plate for the Sea Gulls. Caster finished 2-for-4 with a double, home run and five RBIs.
• Justin Meekins went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Stephen Rice finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases.
• Matt Padeway and Cullen McAuliffe each had multi-RBI games, with Padeway's two-run single in the third giving the Sea Gulls the lead for good and McAuliffe's three-run homer in the seventh getting SU on the board for the last time.
• Jacob Ference proved to be quite the table setter for Salisbury. He walked to lead off the third and fifth innings and was hit by a pitch to begin the sixth; the Sea Gulls ultimately scored 10 runs in those three frames.
• Clayton Dwyer (2-0) followed up C2C Pitcher of the Week and D3Baseball.com Team of the Week honors with three scoreless innings in relief, giving up two hits and striking out four to pick up the win.
• Jackson Balzan started the game for Salisbury and lasted four innings, surrendering one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

MARY WASHINGTON GAME 1 NOTES

• David Lamberston finished 3-for-4 with a run to lead the Eagles at the plate.
• Ty Lowe went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.
• Zach Adams (0-4) got knocked out in the fifth and took the loss, giving up eight runs (five earned) on five hits in 4.2 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2

• After his mammoth first game, Kavi Caster stayed hot and got the Sea Gulls on the board in the first inning, clubbing a one-out double to right and scoring on two wild pitches.
• Cameron Hyder led off the second with a double, then Christian Murphy walked and Luke Weddell bunted both runners into scoring position. Cullen McAuliffe followed with a sac fly to left, plating Hyder to make it 2-0 Salisbury.
• Caster was in the middle of things again in the third. His bloop single with one out brought up Stephen Rice, who bashed a two-run homer to left to give the Sea Gulls a 4-0 advantage.
• UMW got one back in the top of the sixth. Caleb McAlister managed a one-out single then beat a throw to second after Chris Rubano grounded out to first. Jonathan Sedmak then snuck a two-out single up the middle, scoring McAlister to cut the Salisbury lead to 4-1.
• The Sea Gulls gave themselves significant breathing room with a five-run seventh. With two on after walks and one out, Matt Padeway banged a two-run double into right center. Hyder then walked and Murphy was hit by the pitch to load the bases, and two Salisbury runs scored on wild pitches with Weddell at the plate. Weddell ultimately walked, and McAuliffe brought home Murphy with a sac fly to center, making it 9-1 Salisbury.
• The Eagles rallied for three in the eighth. With the bases loaded and one out, Sedmak legged out an RBI infield single. Norman Holcomb followed with a single to right to score two to make it 9-4, but Sedmak got thrown out overrunning second base for the second out, and the UMW rally stalled there.
• Caster singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth, stole second and scored on an error to get the Sea Gulls up to 10 runs.
• Luke Guerzon's sac fly in the top of the ninth for UMW gave the game its final margin.

SALISBURY GAME 2 NOTES

• Kavi Caster finished 3-for-5 with a double, four runs and a stolen base for the Sea Gulls. In the two games of the doubleheader, Caster went 5-for-9 with two doubles, a home run, five RBIs and five runs scored.
• Stephen Rice went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored, while Cameron Hyder finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.
• In his first start of the year, Jimmy Adkins (2-0) turned in the longest outing for any Salisbury starting pitcher this season. Adkins went 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts on 83 pitches.

MARY WASHINGTON GAME 2 NOTES

• Jonathan Sedmak and Norman Holcomb each had two RBIs for the Eagles. McAlister went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
• Brendan McComber (1-1) was saddled with the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in six innings.
