WASHINGTON, D.C. -- It was a breezy day in the nation's capital, but it was of little concern to the Marymount University baseball team, as the Saints earned their fourth consecutive victory with a 9-3 triumph over Gwynedd Mercy University.

With the win, MU (5-2) improved their conference record to a spotless 4-0. The loss sent the Griffins record to 0-4 and 0-1 in Atlantic East Conference play. Marymount's bats made the difference once again, as the Saints used six hits to manufacture their runs. GMU mustered four hits against Marymount's arms, but the Saints pitchers kept the Griffins at bay.

Ryan Bergenhagen toed the rubber for MU and did not disappoint. The senior tossed five innings and struck out a pair while allowing just four hits and three runs to earn his third win. Clint Wheeler put the game to bed in the ninth inning, as the junior struck out all three of the Griffins' batters to seal the victory.

Gwynedd Mercy managed to jump out to an early 1-0 lead after a sac fly plated a run in the second inning. Marymount wasted little time to come up with a response, however, as the Saints scratched across four runs in the third frame.

A trio of free bases brought Bill Wojcik to the plate with no outs. The senior laced a single into left field that plated Casey Baker for MU's first run. With one out, the reigning Atlantic East Player of the Week, Alex Lemery, dug in at the dish. He made Gwynedd Mercy pay with a double down the left field line that made it a 3-1 game. Ryan Lee plated the final run of the frame with a sac fly to center field that brought home Ryan Maylie

With a three-run lead, the Saints rolled throughout the remainder of the contest. Another double from Lemery pushed Marymount's lead to 6-3 in the seventh inning and a trio of bases-loaded walks in the eighth inning gave the game its final scoreline.

Lemery continued his hot streak after going 2-for-4 with 5 RBI and one walk. Wojcik added a pair of RBI, one hit and two walks, while Bobby Leitzel went 2-for-4 at the dish and scored a pair of runs.

Marymount returns to action on Saturday, April 3, when they hit the road for an Atlantic East doubleheader against Gwynedd Mercy. Game one is scheduled for a noon start.
