Graham Stands Alone as All-Time Hits Leader as Fisher Downs Alfred State

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning on Wednesday, shortstop Justin Graham delivered a two-run single to center field to become the St. John Fisher College baseball program's all-time leader in hits with his 226th career base knocks as the Cardinals dispatched of visiting Alfred State College, 9-6, at Dugan Yard.  With the win, Fisher, which is receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com poll, improved to 13-4 on the season while the Pioneers fell to 11-12 on the season.

An All-American on the diamond, Graham went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI and two runs scored.  The Webster product surpassed Andy Campbell and Scott Eisenmenger who had shared the record with 225 career hits each.  Graham is also nearing the all-time mark in runs scored as he needs just two to overtake Campbell's record of 164.

Noah Campanelli was a home run shy of the cycle for Fisher after going 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple as the infielder scored four runs and drove in another in the win.  James Murphy had two hits in five at-bats including a double while Brian Norsen was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Fisher used four pitchers in the nine-inning affair with Michael Poirier taking the ball to start where he pitched an inning and allowed three unearned runs.  Hunter Walsh (1-0) was credited with the win after going six strong innings.  The sophomore let in two runs on four hits and tallied one strikeout.  Connor McHugh gave up a run in an inning of work while Joseph Tronetti picked up a save after yielding one hit in the ninth inning.

After giving up three runs in the top of the first inning following an infield error, Fisher got one back in the home half of the frame with Luke Duffy drawing a bases loaded walk to make it 3-1.

Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the second, Campanelli smoked a two-out double to left and came around to score on a wild pitch to pull the Cardinals to within one.

After a 1-2-3 top of the fourth, Fisher pushed the tying run across the plate as Campanelli led off the inning with a triple and scored when Norsen singled to left to level the game at three runs apiece.

The Cardinals took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of four runs on four hits with Graham pushing home two on a two-out, record-breaking single to center to make it 7-3.

Fisher would add to its lead in the sixth with a run-scoring double from Murphy to make it 8-3, but the Pioneers were able to chip away with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh to cut the gap to three.

Leading 8-5 late in the game, Fisher pushed another run across the plate in the home half of the seventh with Adam Zebrowski, who was named to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week on Tuesday, driving in Graham with an opposite field single.

Trailing by four runs in eighth, Alfred State came away with an RBI on an infield single to cut the deficit to three runs before Tronetti closed the door on the comeback bid in the ninth.

The Cardinals are scheduled to return to the field at 2 p.m. on Friday when they travel to Houghton College for an Empire 8 doubleheader.
