More news about: Marymount

ASTON, Pa. – The Marymount University baseball team continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, as the Saints wrapped up a weekend series against Neumann with wins in both games of an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader.

Game One

Marymount (13-3, 11-1 AEC) used a seventh-inning comeback to upend the Knights (5-7, 2-7 AEC) in the opening game of Saturday's twinbill. The team's traded runs throughout the contest, but the home side carried a 5-4 lead into the final frame after a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

A timely piece of hitting from Kenny Frank made the difference for MU. With the bases loaded and one out, Frank came into the game as a pinch hitter. The junior did not disappoint, as he laced a single down the right-field line. Alex Lemery and Will DiGiulian hustled around the basepaths to score. A mental miscue from the Knight's right fielder allowed Bill Wojcik to score as to give Marymount the lead at 7-6.

After Clint Wheeler earned the first out on the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning, rookie Jake Andrews entered the contest with the outcome hanging in the balance. The Knights loaded the bases, but Andrews sat down the final two batters to seal the win.

Jordan Dickson and Robby Cable supplied the offense with two hits apiece. Cable added an RBI, while both scored a run. Lemery worked two walks and score a pair of runs, while Wojcik pushed his hit-streak to five contests.

On the bump, Kenny Sysyn was credited with the win, his first of the season. Andrews picked up his second save.

Game Two

After the late-game heroics in the opening contest, Marymount used an eight-run fourth inning to seal an 11-8 victory over Neumann in the second game.

Neumann struck early in the contest, as a three-run homer from Zach Ray gave the Knights a 5-1 lead after the second inning. Despite the deficit, Marymount's offense found its groove in the fourth frame.

The Saints loaded the bases and a walk from DiGiulian brought in the first run. With two outs, Lemery kick-started the rally with his sixth home run of the season. The junior launched the grand slam effort to left-center for four RBI. The Saints' fireworks were not done after Lemery's shot. Bryan Harris dug in at the plate with two outs and runners on second and third. Harris cranked a home run over the leftfield wall to punctuate the rally and gave MU a 9-6 lead.

Wojick plated MU's 10th run with a single in the bottom of the seventh frame, while a single from Dickson gave the game its 11-8 scoreline in the eighth inning.

Andrews was called upon once again to toe the rubber with the game on the line. The St. Johns, Florida, native tossed the final 2.1 innings, allowed just one hit, and struck out four to pick up the save. Kyle Lewis earned the first win of his career after fanning four batters across 3.2 innings of work.

The Saints have a week's layoff before returning to action against Immaculata on Friday, April 30. The opening pitch at Nationals Youth Academy is set for 1:00 p.m.
