R-MC Baseball Season Ends

ASHLAND, Va. – The 21st-ranked and top-seeded Randolph-Macon baseball team lost 7-4 to eighth-seeded Eastern Mennonite on Sunday afternoon in the third and deciding game of the quarterfinal series of the ODAC Tournament.

How It Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) had a one-out single to third and moved to second on a groundout. With two away, senior Reece Yeargain (Chester, Va./Benedictine) reached on a single to short. Iannuzzi scored on the errant throw to first as R-MC took a 1-0 lead. After a walk to senior Jacob Selden (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass), junior Will Hass (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) singled to right to plate Yeargain with a second run.
  • After EMU tied it with two in the second, R-MC reclaimed the lead in the fourth. Freshman Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) had a one-out single, moved to second on a base hit by senior Ryan Duphorn (Erial, N.J./Paul VI), stole third and came home on a sacrifice fly by Iannuzzi as the Yellow Jackets went up 3-2.
  • The Royals put up five in the top of the fifth to go up 7-3. R-MC began to chip away in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Mike Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had a leadoff single and went to second on a groundout. Nickles advanced to third on a base hit to left by Selden and came home when the ball was mishandled to make it 7-4. Neither team scored over the final four innings, making the final 7-4.
