TRENTON, N.J. – Penn State Harrisburg baseball standout Bret Williams recently joined the Trenton Thunder of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft League for summer competition.

With 2021 serving as its inaugural season, the MLB Draft League is a collegiate summer league showcase for top draft-eligible prospects from all three NCAA Divisions, as well as NAIA and Junior College schools. The six clubs comprising the league were formerly members of Minor League Baseball's (MiLB) Carolina League, Eastern League, and New York-Penn League.

Most recently, Williams recorded a pair of hits, including a double, and scored a run in Trenton's victory over the Frederick Keys on Friday afternoon, July 23. The Thunder will return home to Trenton Thunder Ballpark for a six-game homestand beginning Tuesday night, August 3. Trenton hosts the State College Spikes for three outings before wrapping things up with a three-game series against Frederick. Fans can purchase tickets for the homestand or follow the action by watching streams of MLB Draft League games both live and on demand.

One of the most successful players in NCAA Division III history, Williams currently ranks second all-time in total bases (548), tied for fourth all-time in home runs (63), fifth all-time in runs batted in (250), tied for fifth all-time in hits (290), and sixth all-time in runs scored (232).

Williams is coming off a stellar 2021 campaign that saw him slash .450/.586/.915 with 17 home runs, 66 RBI, 43 walks, and 16 stolen bases for Penn State Harrisburg. The Mount Carmel, Pa. native was named a First-Team All-American by both the ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com for the second straight season after being named the Mid-Atlantic Regional Player of the Year by both organizations.
