NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Collin Reid's pinch hit three-run home run in the ninth inning powered the Bridgewater College baseball team to an 8-5 victory vs. Christopher Newport on Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Eagles got off to a hot start in their first at bats. Jeffrey Snider hit a three-run homer in the top of the first to give the team an early 3-0 lead.
  • In the top of the third, Brandan Hartman grounded out to short, scoring Hunter Clever from third adding to the lead.
  • CNU fought back in the fifth scoring two runs on a two-run shot by Conner Clark, making it a two-run game.
  • Bridgewater caught a break in the seventh when Kevin Navedo scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 5-2.
  • The Captains tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homer by Justin Bowers and an RBI double from Kevin Mackmin.
  • In the top of the ninth, Reid pinch hit and crushed a ball to left center field that went over the fence, giving the Eagles an 8-5 lead. Brett Tharp shut down CNU in the eighth and ninth to earn the win.

Match Notes

  • For Tharp, he earns his first win of the year after continuing to dominate on the mound. He gave up two hits and stuck out two in two innings of work.
