Cary, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg baseball took down William Peace 10-5 Wednesday afternoon.

Jack Bachmore made his third appearance and second start of the season for the Hornets. He struck out two batters in four innings and only allowed one run. 

After four innings of play, the game was tied 1-1. In the top of the fifth, Lynchburg jumped out to its second lead of the day thanks to an RBI double from Carrson Atkins. He later scored on a single from Cameron Lane, and the Hornets led 3-1. 

William Peace retied the game in the bottom of the frame then took a one-run lead in the sixth. 

Lynchburg closed the gap in the eighth inning...and then some. Gavin Collins lead off the inning and got on with a hit-by-pitch. Avery Neaves and PJ Alvanos both walked to load the bases. The next batter, Holden Fiedler, tied the game up with a single.

After Neaves scored on a balk to give Lynchburg the lead, Eric Hiett was hit by a pitch in his first-collegiate AB. The freshman scored during the next AB when Carrson Atkins cleared the bases with a grand slam. 

Atkins' first-career dinger blew the game wide open, 9-4. Atkins went 3-3 on the day with five RBI. He collected eight total bases as he paired two doubles with his homer. The senior from Charlottesville, Va. caused havoc all throughout the game as he also walked and stole a bag. Atkins is now batting .417 on the season. 

Grayson Thurman, the reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference pitcher of the week, come on to pitch in the seventh. He struck out two batters without allowing a run in the eighth. In the ninth, Avery Neaves, the defending ODAC player of the week, added an insurance run as he drove Collins home with a single to right. 

With Lynchburg leading 10-4, Thurman struck out one more batter in the bottom of the frame and stranded a runner. Despite allowing two hits and a run, Thurman closed out Lynchburg's fifth-straight win as the Hornets beat William Peace 10-5. 

The Hornets scored 10 runs in back-to-back games. The last time they tallied ten or more runs in consecutive games came back on May 8 and May 15, 2021 when they hung a combined 26 runs on Washington and Lee and Bridgewater. 

On Tuesday, Lynchburg received 235 votes in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA National Poll and came in ranked 15th. The Hornets appeared in the top-25 for the first time since 2012 and received their highest ranking in the 12-year history of the poll. 

No. 15 Lynchburg (7-1) squares of with York (Pa.) for a three-game series beginning Friday, Mar. 4 at home. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 at Fox Field.
