Neumann Wins Second Straight in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated the University of Mary Washington 8-6 on Tuesday evening under the lights in Myrtle Beach.

 

Shawn Vega, Ryan Lopez and Nick Glebocki each had two hits in the game. Zach Mullins made his collegiate debut on the mound and went 5.0 innings for the win. He allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three. Chris Balshuweit went 2.2 innings and struck out seven, allowed a run on three hits. Brennan Hatala pitched 0.1 innings Vic Mejia got his second straight save.

 

Neumann got on the board first with an unearned run in the second as Zach Ray scored on a passed ball. Marcus White knocked in Andrew Curran and Lopez with a double in the fourth. White then came around to score on a single by Alec Silverman for a 4-0 lead.

 

Mary Washington hit a three-run homerun in the top of the fifth. Lopez hit his first homerun of the season, a two-run shot for a 6-3 score. Curran hit his second homerun of the season in the eighth and the Knights plated an unearned run for insurance.

 

Neumann (2-0) will face Eastern tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:30 PM.
