Early Runs Lead Neumann over Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Neumann University used a 10-run first inning to defeat Stockton University 14-10 on Tuesday afternoon.

 

Ryan Lopez went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and an RBI. Marcus White was 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored.

 

Zach Mullins started the game and went the first 4.0 innings. He allowed four unearned runs on three hits. Vic Mejia pitched the fifth inning and allowed two runs, one earned, on one hit. Brian Van Etten couldn't get an out in the sixth, allowing four runs on five hits. Brennan Hatala came in and went 2.0 innings and allowed just one hit. The game was called after seven innings due to darkness.

 

Shawn Vega opened the game with a single, stole second and scored on a single by Nick Glebocki for the first of 10 runs in the first inning. With two runners on base, White singled to score Glebocki. Neumann took advantage of some errors and a balk to continuing adding to the score. White came up to the plate for the second time in the inning and singled in Lopez and Glebocki for a 10-0 lead after the top of the first.

 

Andrew Curran doubled in Lopez in the third inning for the 11th run. Curran came around to score on a single by Zach Ray. White scored on a single by Cristian Diaz for a 13-0 lead after three.

 

The Ospreys scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 13-4 game.

 

The Knights plated an unearned run in the fifth as White scored on a single by Colin Pollard.

 

Stockton scored two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull to within four, 14-10. After a scoreless seventh, the game was called due to darkness.

 

Neumann (3-4) will open its home schedule on Saturday when it hosts Rosemont for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12:00 PM
