Big Fourth Inning Propels Dutchmen To Run-Ruled Victory Over Wittenberg

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Lebanon Valley College baseball team batted around and scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to defeat Wittenberg University 15-5 in seven innings on Thursday night in Port Charlotte.
 
Wittenberg (4-3) took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Lebanon Valley (4-4) responded with three runs in the second to take the lead. The Tigers took the lead right back with two runs in the third. The Dutchmen sent 15 men to the plate in the fourth inning and scored 10 runs to retake the lead and blow the game open. The Tigers scored a run in the seventh and the Dutchmen came back with two runs in the bottom half to end the game.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • Nico Santoro had a huge day at the plate and did most of his damage in the fourth inning. The junior went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. All four of his RBIs came in the fourth inning on a pair of two-RBI singles. The four hits matched his career-high.
  • Max Kaplan hit his first career home run to start the scoring in the fourth and give the Dutchmen the lead. His blast to left scored Ethan O'Loughlin who led off the inning with a single to left.
  • Shane Stossel and O'Loughlin had RBI doubles in the fourth inning while Jace Fetterman also knocked in a run.
  • Mike Bulgia extended his hitting streak with an RBI single up the middle in the seventh inning. Justin Ranker ended the game a few batters later with a bases-loaded pinch-hit single scoring Bulgia.
  • The Dutchmen offense racked up a season-high 15 runs on 12 hits including three doubles and a home run while drawing a season-high nine walks.
  • Michael Williams got the win on the mound in his first start of the year. He went four innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Jacob Horton picked up a three-inning save with a great relief performance. He allowed just one run on one hit and struck out five while facing 12 batters.
  • LVC avenged an 8-0 loss to Wittenberg earlier in the week. The all-time series is now tied 1-1 between the programs. 

Who's Next
Lebanon Valley will be in action tomorrow morning and will play two games at South County Regional Park in Punta Gorda. The Dutchmen will take on Ohio Wesleyan University for a schedule 10 a.m. first pitch before playing their second game of the week against Heidelberg University.
