ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team got off to a slow start but was able to surge late to defeat Moravian University 6-5 in the home opener on Tuesday afternoon.

Nate Griffin started the game and went 7.0 innings. He allowed five runs, three earned, on 10 hits while striking out three. Will Hart was able to shut the door, pitching the scoreless and hitless eighth and ninth innings to earning the victory.

Shawn Vega went 3-for-5 with two doubles, scored two runs and knocked in one. Nick Glebocki went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and two doubles.

Moravian jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on two key errors by the Knights, and timely hitting. The Greyhounds added another unearned run in the second to make the game 5-0.

The Knights pushed across one run in the fourth on a single by Andrew Curran. Neumann added two more runs in the fifth. A double by Glebocki scored Vega. Glebocki came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Marcus White.

Down 5-3 in the seventh, the Knights hit back-to-back-to-back doubles by Colin Pollard, Vega and Glebocki to tie the game at five. Neumann would push the game winning run across the plate in the bottom of the eighth on a bases loaded walk by Pollard.

Neumann (4-4) is back in action tomorrow against Delaware Valley at home at 3:00PM.
