BOSTON, Mass. – Trailing 6-0 through five innings, baseball rallied to score seven-straight runs including the walk-off fielder's choice from Aidan Blake to earn the Beacons the 7-6 non-conference win over Johnson & Wales University Tuesday afternoon at Monan Park.

UMass Boston 7, Johnson & Wales 6

UMass Boston (8-2)
Johnson & Wales (1-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED

After an RBI double from Jake Woltman tied the game at 6-6, Blake would drive home the game-winning run as he beat out a double-play opportunity to earn the Beacons the come-from-behind victory.

The Beacons who struggled to make contact through the first five frames began to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the fifth. Blake would score UMB's first run of the day on a wild pitch. Steve Brookwell made it a four-run affair in the same inning as he plated Woltman.

Blake, along with an error by the JWU outfield, resulted in the Beacons' third run of the afternoon. Gianni Zarrilli, Jr. made it a two-run affair thanks to an RBI groundout.

Woltman and Blake would combine yet again to make it a one-run game in the sixth, with Woltman recording his first of two doubles.

In the ninth, JWU's pitching staff which was solid through the first few innings began to struggle. With no outs on the scoreboard, the Beacons had runners on second and third. Craig Corliss moved his teammates over to put the game-winning run just 90 feet away, following his groundout to short.

An intentional walk to Kevin Carrera loaded the bases, setting up the decisive hit by Blake. JWU managed to get the runner at second, but Blake managed to beat out the play at first.

Josh Eastman picked up his first win of the year after a shutdown ninth-inning appearance. Over the final four innings, the Beacons bullpen did not allow a run or a walk and surrendered just two hits.

Woltman ended the day 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Blake was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
