Neumann Takes Two from Cabrini

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team took both games of an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Cabrini University. The Knights won the first game 11-3, followed by a 14-4 win in the nightcap.
 
Shawn VegaRyan LopezMarcus White and Zach Ray all had two hits in the 11-3 game one win. Will Hart picked up the win on the mound, going 6.0 innings. He allowed three runs on three hits and struck out eight. Brennan Hatala pitched a scoreless seventh.
 
The first three Knights walked in the bottom of the first inning. White knocked in a pair for a 2-0 lead after one inning. After a Cabrini run in the fourth, White singled in Neumann's third run for a 3-1 lead after five innings.
 
The Cavaliers tied the game at three with a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth. Colin Pollard led off the home half of the sixth with a solo homerun to put Neumann back in the lead. With two outs, the Knights plated seven more runs in the sixth. Andrew Curran hit a two-run double and Vega a two-run single in the inning for an 11-3 score.
 
Cabrini loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but couldn't score and Neumann took the first game.
 
The bats stayed hot in the second game. Vega and Pollard each had three hits while Lopez, Ray and Marty Cortellessa each added a pair.
 
Zach Mullins started the game and went the first 4.1 innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and struck out six. Nick Colon picked up the win out of the pen, going 4.2 innings. He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out four.
 
Cabrini struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning. Neumann tied the game at two with a pair of runs in the third.
 
Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Lopez hit a bases-clearing double for a 6-2 Neumann advantage. Vega knocked in Pollard in the sixth for a 7-2 lead.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, Ray led off with a solo homerun. With the bases loaded, Vega and Nick Glebocki drew back-to-back walks for two more runs. Two hits and two sacrifice flies in the inning lead the Knights to a 14-2 lead heading into the ninth.
 
Cabrini made some noise in the top of the ninth, but the two runs weren't enough, and Neumann took home the 14-4 final to complete the doubleheader sweep.
