Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball sophomore Riley O'Donovan slugged a grand slam as the No. 5-ranked Hornets beat Pfeiffer 11-6 Wednesday afternoon.
O'Donovan went 2-3 on the day and has 10 RBI on the year.
The sophomore catcher was one of four Hornets with multihit days. Avery Neaves and Gavin Collins both went 2-3, and Josh Gjormand collected three hits. Neaves extended his on-base streak to 23 games with two doubles and a walk.
The Hornets got on the board in the first inning for the second-straight day. Neaves scorched a line drive to center and scored Gjormand on a sacrifice fly. Gjormand grabbed two singles and a double to extend his hitting streak to six games.
O'Donovan highlighted a six-run third inning with a grand slam and his second-career homer.
With the Hornets leading 9-2, Wesley Arrington left the game after six innings of four-hit ball. He fanned six Falcons in the longest outing of his career.
Lynchburg's bullpen allowed three runs over the next two innings. PJ Alvanos and Neaves got two of those runs back in the eighth. Alvanos picked up his second RBI of the day, and Neaves scored on a wild pitch.
Andrew Golladay finished up the game in the ninth and clinched Lynchburg's 11-6 win over Pfeiffer. The Hornets are now 13-1 at home with four games in double-digit runs at James C. Fox Field.
The Hornets (19-4, 8-0 ODAC) visit Ferrum for a double-header on Saturday, Apr. 2 beginning at 12 p.m.
