SALISBURY, Md. – The 11th-ranked Salisbury University baseball team won its sixth straight game, brushing aside the Neumann Knights, 8-2, on Monday afternoon at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Knights took an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Nick Glebocki pounded a one-out ground-rule double to left, then two batters later Marcus White got him home with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
• The Sea Gulls answered and tied the game in the bottom of the first. After back-to-back two-out walks to Kavi Caster and Stephen Rice, Sky Rahill dunked an RBI single into right, scoring Caster to get it back to 1-1.
• Adam Tommer led off the second with a single, then two batters later Luke Weddell slashed a triple down the right field line and into the corner, allowing Tommer to score easily. Weddell then scored on a Cameron Hyder sac fly to left, putting SU on top 3-1.
• In the fourth, Patrick Campbell led off with a walk, then Weddell beat out a bunt single and Campbell took third on a bad throw from third. Hyder poked a base hit through the right side, scoring Campbell and moving Weddell to third, then the two runners executed a double steal from the corners that plated Weddell and made it 5-1.
• Dom Frigiola walked to lead off the sixth, then Caster bashed a liner into the left center gap for an RBI triple. Rice brought Caster home on a sac fly to center, pushing Salisbury's lead to 7-1.
• Neumann got a run back in the top of the seventh. Colin Pollard walked to lead off, then Shawn Vega banged a double off the left center wall to put men on second and third. Glebocki rolled out to short to get Pollard home and make it 7-2.
• Salisbury canceled the Knights' run out in the home seventh. With two out and Campbell on first after a walk, Campbell took off on a delayed steal of second. The throw from the plate to get Campbell struck him on the helmet and ricocheted into left center field, allowing Campbell to come all the way around to score and push it back to 8-2, where it would stay through the final out.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Luke Weddell sparked the Sea Gulls at the plate from the nine-hole, going 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.
• Kavi Caster finished 1-for-3 with an RBI triple and two runs scored, plus a stolen base.
• Cameron Hyder went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a swiped bag.
• Jackson Balzan (5-1) earned his fifth straight victory with 5.2 strong innings, giving up one run on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts on 86 pitches. Balzan has given up just two runs over 34.2 innings (0.52 ERA) during his five-start winning streak.
• Brandon Epstein relieved Balzan in the sixth and stranded the bases loaded. He also worked an effective seventh, while Justin McDermott and Corey Burton finished off a scoreless eighth and ninth, respectively.

NEUMANN GAME NOTES

• Nick Glebocki finished 2-for-5 with a pair of ground-rule doubles, plus a run and an RBI.
• Colin Pollard went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
• Thomas Carroll (0-2) took the loss for the Knights after allowing five runs on five hits and seven walks in 3.2 innings.

UP NEXT

• The Sea Gulls now turn their attention to Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) rival Mary Washington, who will come to town for a doubleheader on Saturday.
• First pitch of Game 1 is set for 12 p.m. with coverage on the Sea Gull Sports Network (SGSN) beginning at 11:45 a.m.
• Game 2 of the twin bill will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
