Brockport Extends DIII Leading Win Streak; Kretzler Breaks School-Record for Career Runs Scored

The SUNY Brockport baseball team extended it's NCAA Division III leading win streak to 16 games on Wednesday night as the Golden Eagles topped host RIT 12-5 in non-conference action on the road. The Golden Eagles hold the second longest win streak at any level of NCAA baseball, trailing just DI Tennessee (20 straight wins). All-time home run leader Tom Kretzler added another long ball to his ledger and also scored three runs, to surpass Brockport Hall of Famer John Morgan as the program's career-record holder for runs scored with 129. 

Brockport's record improved to 18-2 overall on the season and it has now won four straight against RIT dating back to 2019.  RIT's record fell to 13-8 on the season.  The Golden Eagles, who are receiving votes in the D3baseball.com National Poll, will face possibly its toughest test yet as they travel to SUNYAC rival Cortland on Friday for a weekend set. Game one on Friday against the nationally ranked No. 6 Red Dragons is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

Kretzler finished the day going 3-for-6 with three RBIs, three runs scored, a triple and a home run.  Four Golden Eagles added two RBIs each, including Matt O'DairRyan VoightNicholas Pastore and Zach Eldred.  Eldred went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while James Houlahan finished the day with a 2-for-4 effort at the dish. Houlahan is riding the highs of a seven game hitting streak. 

Brockport pitched by committee in the midweek non-conference contest as seven different pitchers toed the rubber for the Golden Eagles.  Colin Pytlak pitched 2.0 scoreless innings and struck out one, while senior Adam Douglas added 1.2 innings of work and struck out two.  Matthew Colucci added 1.2 hitless innings of work and struck out two and Justin DelVecchio closed the door in the ninth with one strikeout.  Cooper MeldrimNick Lawlor and Nick Ianniello also saw time on the mound for Brockport. 

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning following Pastore's two-RBI single to right field which scored O'Dair and Houlahan. Pastore has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games and he has five RBIs over the course of his last three outings.

RIT got two back in the fourth, but the Golden Eagles responded right back with three more runs in the top half of the fifth inning to push its lead back to 6-2.  Brockport's three run fifth was sparked by a two-RBI single to center field from Eldred which scored Pastore and Voight. 

RIT's final rally came in the seventh inning as the home team plated three more runs to make it a tight 6-5 ball game. 

Brockport closed the door with six more runs in its final two at-bats to seal the seven-run road victory.  Kretzler got Brockport going in the eighth with an RBI triple which scored Zach Goldberg. Voight then singled home Kretzler to close out the eighth inning scoring with Brockport leading 8-5.  O'Dair had a two-RBI double in the ninth and Kretzler finished the scoring with a towering two-RBI homer to left field.  Kretzler now has 26 career home runs to his credit.
