No. 5 Lynchburg wins 10th ODAC game

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball beat Virginia Wesleyan 9-3 Wednesday afternoon. 

Four Lynchburg batters enjoyed multihit days as the fifth-ranked Hornets slugged double-digits hits for the fourth-straight game.

Wesley Arrington made his fourth start of the year and allowed two runs over two innings. Jack Bachmore delivered five innings of one-run ball and was the pitcher of record when the Hornets jumped out to a lead. 

Logan Webster brought a run home in the third with a double, and Carrson Atkins thrust Lynchburg into the lead with a three-run homer in the fourth. 

The Hornets scored in three of their next four trips to the plate while Bachmore and Grayson Thurman held the Marlins scoreless after the fourth. 

Avery Neaves extended his on-base streak to 26 games with a hit and two walks. Riley O'Donovan drove in two runs with a single. 

Josh Gjormand poked three hits for the third time in the last four games, and Gavin Collins reached base four times. The 2021 ODAC Freshman of the Year has multiple hits in six of the last eight games.

Thurman struck out the side in the eighth and faced the minimum in the ninth to clinch Lynchburg's tenth conference win. 

The Hornets only struck out once on Wednesday marking their least amount of Ks in 109 games. The last time Lynchburg had one strikeout was May 2, 2018.

The Hornets (21-5, 10-1 ODAC) play No. 24 Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va. on Saturday, Apr. 9 at 1 p.m.
